FOR THE PUBLIC

WALII's outreach goals are to engage with K-12 teachers and students from underserved communities and members of the public to demystify science and involve citizens in scientific efforts.

Our initiatives will include developing a Beal-style seed longevity citizen science experiment lesson plan in conjunction with Washington D.C. teachers and an expansion of the International Society of Tardigrade Hunters project to enable participants to take photos of the microscopic animals using Foldscopes connected to smartphones.

STANFORD LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
“WALII operates in part out of the Carnegie Institution for Science's Plant Biology Department located at Stanford University. Stanford sits on the ancestral land of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe. This land was and continues to be of great importance to the Ohlone people. Consistent with our values of community and inclusion, we have a responsibility to acknowledge, honor, and make visible the University’s relationship to Native peoples.”

WALII is funded by NSF DBI grant #2213983
